Fashion360 x RawAssembly - A Future of Sustainable and Ethically Positioned Fashion Businesses

Approximately 8% of the world’s greenhouse gases are created by the fashion & textile industry, this impact is expected to increase by 49% by 2030 and over the last 15 years, there has been a 36% decrease in the utilised lifespan of people's clothing. Although a major source of employment, most of the 60 to 75 million people employed in the global textile industry do not have contracts, fixed schedules, or access to labour laws. While these statistics can seem a world away from Australians and their fashion choices, with a population of 23.5 million and the fashion industry contributing more than 27.2 billion dollars to the economy, Australians are the world’s second-largest consumers of fashion and textiles (RawAssembly, 2021).

At Fashion360, we believe the future of fashion is ethical and sustainable and encourage responsible practices in all of our programs. We are actively searching for ways to educate and empower our program participants to become change makers and apply these practices to their own professions. Hence why today we are excited to announce our partnership with RawAssembly!

RawAssembly is a responsible and sustainable textile sourcing event, magazine and digital platform, founded to share knowledge and awareness of responsible textiles that are regenerative, circular and ethical. Since 2018, RawAssembly has delivered a variety of sourcing events in Sydney and Melbourne, aiming to provide fabric sourcing, information and inspiration for designers, companies and brands who aim to implement sustainable strategies into their businesses and supply chains.

RawAssembly brings together a community of international textile, interior and fashion designers, sourcing professionals, artists & CEO’s to drive change within these sectors by producing fibre, fabrics, materials and finished products responsibly, sustainably and with circularity in mind. Through magazines, events, a digital sourcing platform and partnerships with organisations such as the Conscious Fashion Campaign in collaboration with the United Nations office for partnerships, RawAssembly helps connect and inspire change across multiple industries whilst advocating plastic-free textiles, ensuring that both people and the planet are protected for future generations.

We look forward to having Thea Speechley, founder of Raw Assembly, join us as Sustainability Specialist in our Fashion360 Activator Program commencing 2022, to impart knowledge and experience as well as share contacts and connections to the global providers of sustainable materials.
